Melody Parker
Melody is a DPhil student working in bioinformatics and microbial genomics. Her research focuses on using genomic and computational approaches to investigate the transmission of antimicrobial resistance (AMR) genes, including the analysis of bacterial chromosomes and plasmids in suspected AMR hospital outbreaks. Her work also involves developing and optimising direct-from-clinical-sample nanopore sequencing approaches for virus diagnostics and the rapid detection and characterisation of viral pathogens.
Prior to starting her DPhil, Melody was a bioinformatician at the Big Data Institute, where she developed and applied computational pipelines in functional genomics to investigate genes and pathways associated with women’s reproductive health and cardiometabolic traits, using ovarian and adipose cell data. She has also worked with IQVIA on COVID-19 data collection for the University of Oxford and the Office for National Statistics. Melody holds a BSc in Applied Mathematics and an MSc in Computational Medicine.
