Dylan Adlard
Dylan joined the group in October 2020. During his MBiochem degree, he developed machine-learning models that used structural and chemical information to predict resistance to rifampicin, a first-line tuberculosis drug.
Dylan went on to complete a DPhil through the SABS R³ programme, extending this work to develop methods to identify and predict resistance to all tuberculosis drugs, including bedaquiline, a key drug in second-line treatment regimens.
He is currently a postdoctoral researcher with the Oxford Consortium for Drug for TB (OxCoD4TB), where he supports the development of new lead compounds for tuberculosis treatment. His work includes investigating resistance in common non-tuberculous mycobacteria using a large collection of clinical samples collected by the UK Health Security Agency. He also helps maintain and update CRyPTIC, one of the largest datasets of clinical mycobacterial genomes and drug-susceptibility phenotypes.
Dylan is also interested in promoting modern software development and statistical practices, with ongoing projects focused on modernising tools widely used in microbial diagnostics.
He serves on the Nuffield Department of Medicine Research Culture Committee and is a Fellow of the Software Sustainability Institute.
