DPhil projects in antibiotic resistance
I am looking for prospective DPhil students interested in using computational methods to understand and predict antibiotic resistance. Two related projects are currently advertised, with different funding routes and application processes:
NDM project: four-year NDM Prize Studentship consideration
The AI and genomics for predicting antimicrobial resistance in mycobacteria project is advertised through the Nuffield Department of Medicine (NDM) which is where I am based in Oxford. Applicants to the DPhil who meet the relevant deadline are automatically considered for NDM Prize Studentships. These provide four years of funding, including fees and a stipend, and are open to candidates of any nationality. See the NDM funding opportunities for current eligibility and application details.
EIT project: Graduate Ellison Scholars
The AI project on predicting and understanding antibiotic resistance in Mycobacteria is part of the Graduate Ellison Scholars programme. It is generously funded and includes Oxford tuition fees and a stipend, with additional support for travel, conferences, technology set-up and arrival costs. Scholars work on a project developed jointly by Oxford and EIT, with researchers across both organisations. This project lists Oxford and EIT supervisors.
The Graduate Ellison Scholars programme seeks candidates from around the world; applicants must meet Oxford’s entry requirements and EIT’s selection criteria. The programme information explains the funding, support and selection process. For this Pathogen programme project, follow the application instructions on the EIT project listing. Applications for October 2027 entry are open until 1 December 2026.
The projects address related questions but have distinct application and funding routes. Please read the relevant listing carefully. If either project sounds interesting, get in touch with me for an informal conversation about the research and whether it could be a good fit.
